Computers and Internet​

The Wilcox Public Library provides public access to computers with internet access to support the educational and informational needs of the community.  Computer users agree to abide by the Library’s Computer and Internet Use Policy.

  • The maximum time per person per day is 2 hours.
  • If all computers are in use, library staff can make a reservation for you so you can return for the assigned time.

Public Internet computers have a web browser and Microsoft Office.

Microsoft Office includes:

  • Word
  • Excel
  • PowerPoint
  • Publisher

WiFi:  The WPL provides free access to the Internet via a high-speed wireless network, please see the librarian for connection information.

Printing Services

  • 25¢ per page (black & white) for standard 8 1/2″ x 11″ sized paper.
  • 50¢ per page (color) for standard 8 1/2″ x 11″ sized paper.
  • Charges will be assessed to each page whether mistakenly printed or not.
  • Printing is available from one of the library’s computers or you can print from your own computer or mobile device.

Copy & Scanning Services

  • Black & white copies (8 1/2″ x 11″ paper) are 25¢ each.
  • Color copies (8 1/2″ x 11″ paper) are 50¢ each.
  • Scanning to a flash drive (provided by the customer) or email is 25¢ per page.
  • Please request this service at the Circulation Desk.

Faxing Services

  • Sending and receiving letter size (8 1/2″ x 11″) papers can be done for a nominal fee.
  • Please request this service at the Circulation Desk.

Laminating Services

  • Only Library staff may operate the laminating machine.
  • Cost is per item and varies depending on the size of lamination.
  • Lamination sizes range from business cards to Tabloid-sized (11″x17″) paper.

Other Technology Services Offered

iPads: the Library has 3 Apple iPads available for circulation. What is an iPad?  iPads are tablets. Tablet computers—or tablets—are handheld computers that are even more portable than laptops. Instead of a keyboard and mouse, tablets use a touch-sensitive screen for typing and navigation.

Here’s what you need to know about borrowing an iPad:

Who can check out iPads?

  • The borrower must have a current Wilcox Public Library card with no outstanding fines.
  • The borrower must be 18 years of age or older. 
  • The borrower must have read and agreed to the iPad Lending Policy in its entirety.
  • Only one iPad per person can be checked out from the library at a time. 
  • Under no circumstances will a user be allowed to check out an iPad for another person. 

How long can I keep an iPad?:

  • iPads can be borrowed for 14 days (2 weeks). 
  • One 7-day renewal is allowed as long as there are no pending holds.
  • iPads must be returned in person to the circulation desk from where they originated. Do not return them using the book dropbox.

Laptops:  the Library has 2 laptops available for circulation.

  • The borrower must have a current Wilcox Public Library card with no outstanding fines.
  • The borrower must be 18 years of age or older. 
  • The borrower must have read and agreed to the Laptop Lending Policy in its entirety. 
  • Only one laptop per person can be checked out at a time.
  • Under no circumstances will a user be allowed to check out a laptop for another person.

Maker & Creator Tools

Cutting Machines:

Cricut Maker – is a DIY cutting machine used to create custom projects for home, business, school, or hobby. It has a small blade to cut a variety of materials such as fabrics, cardstock, vinyl, paper, and more.

  • Available for use by Wilcox Public Library cardholders (18 years or older, with no fines) with a reservation. Reservations can be made by calling the library at 814-929-5639.
  • There is no cost to use the Cricut Maker machine; however, you must provide your own supplies. Learn more about which materials can be used from this material list.

What you need:

  • You will need to sign up for your own Cricut Design Space account.
  • Create designs using Cricut Design Space. Design your own or purchase pre-made designs from Cricut.
  • You will need to know your login information for Cricut Design Space in order to access your designs.
  • Material needed to create your design: vinyl, HTV, cardstock, transfer tape, etc.
  • The item you want to apply your design to mugs, t-shirts, etc.

We have cutting mats and various blades available for use or you may bring your own Cricut brand mat/tools.

Silhouette Portrait 3 – The Portrait is a compact machine that allows you to create DIY projects with incredible precision. From cutting labels to creating custom stickers, and creating homemade cards. The Portrait cuts paper, cardstock, vinyl, & heat transfer vinyl material (8 1/2″ wide).

  • Available for use by Wilcox Public Library cardholders (8 years or older, with no fines) with a reservation; children 8 to 15 must be accompanied by an adult to assist the child when needed. 
  • Reservations can be made by calling the library at 814-929-5639.
  • There is no cost to use the Portrait machine; however, you must provide your own supplies (we do have various colors of cardstock/paper available for 25¢ a sheet).
